1969Founding
Electromatic Constructions Ltd is established as a private limited company, with the goal of providing reliable solutions in the distribution and control of electricity.
1978Product
Introduction to the Cyprus market of power factor correction equipment and other energy conservation systems — revolutionary for the time.
1980Expansion
The decade brings continued growth to the company and strengthens its leadership in the local market. Various Middle East projects are contracted, adding new and valuable clients to an already wide clientele.
1988Ownership
Gregoris Markitanis acquires total control of the company.
Key to Electromatic’s further expansion is the winning of a tender for the supply and commissioning of 27 fully automatic PLC-controlled pumping stations for the Southern Conveyor, an important government irrigation project. Employing the latest electronic technology of the day, Electromatic completes the project successfully — proving its ability to undertake large and complex contracts.
1993Contract
Winning of a tough international competition for the supply and commissioning of large mobile electrocentres in Jordan, including the distribution and control of 11 / 0,66 / 0,38 kV circuits and alarm annunciators, with a full air-conditioning system.
Following this first large-scale overseas project, Electromatic goes on to undertake and complete several important projects abroad.
1996Facility
The company builds and moves to its new headquarters and production plant outside Nicosia, at Latsia — the site it still operates from — creating an excellent working environment.
1998Certification
Electromatic Constructions Ltd receives ISO 9001 quality certification, and begins the procedures for OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety assessment.
2000Certification
While expanding into new fields, Electromatic remains the island’s leader in the distribution and control of electricity and in automation solutions, holding approximately 48% of the local market.
The company receives Occupational Health & Safety Assessment certification OHSAS 18001:1999 — the first Cypriot company to be accredited with it.
2002Partnership
The Audeh Group becomes a strategic partner, acquiring 50% of the company’s share capital.
Ahead of Cyprus’s accession to the European Union, Electromatic completes the necessary procedures for applying CE marking to its products and issuing the relevant declaration of conformity.
2004Expansion
Building on its success in the local market, the company forms Electromatic North-East Ltd in Bulgaria and establishes a European Sales Office in Denmark, to expand operations into the Balkans and other European countries.
2005Contract
After fierce competition, the company wins a high-expenditure eleven-year contract for the installation and maintenance of the traffic enforcement camera system in Cyprus, covering 450 installation sites in towns and on highways.
The contract is considered a great success, and provides the base for further expansion into large-scale technological projects.
2006 – presentTo be added
The migrated record stops in 2005. The project references already on this site cover 2005–2016 — the Jordan electrocentres, the Cairo NAMRU-3 work, the Nigeria and Iraq contracts — so the raw material for several entries is already to hand.
Worth adding here: any change to the certifications held (OHSAS 18001 was withdrawn in favour of ISO 45001), ownership or partnership changes since the Audeh Group, the status of the Bulgarian and Danish operations, and the move into battery energy storage.
